A Simple (flexible)
House
Located in southern Spanish province of Cordoba
among an olive tree plantation, this house was intended
initially as home base for a family working abroad.
As it was not expected to be lived in all year around
and therefore did not need to be very large nor
receive an exorbitant finishing. The design idea
centred on the simple house type built in the region
by Carlos III (1716 to 1788), to accommodate settlers
from Germany in order to inhabit a region at that
time lost to robbers and looters. The base of the
house is a rectangle measuring 6 by 9 meters, 54
square meters in total) with cable roof internally
free of any structure. This permitted an additional
bedroom to be accommodated on top of the part in
which a bedroom and bathroom are located. Effectively
the usable area extended to 72 square metres with
2 bedrooms, a central living room with kitchen.
